5 Must Have Books for Your Christian Library (Other Than The Bible)

5 must have christian books

We are blessed to live in a country where we have unrestricted access to thousands of Christian books and resources.

That can be overwhelming if you don’t know where to start, who to read and what books are sound.  I’d like to share 5 books that have impacted my spiritual growth significantly.

S.A.L.T. Series – The Seven Areas of Life Training is a must have, foundational series of books great for small group study.  Last summer I was part of a small group that went through the series and this week I’m leading a small group to work through the series again.  The series walks through seven areas of life in a God-centered way.  The series includes spiritual, psychological, social, physical, financial, marital and parental books that offer up straightforward yet powerful truths.

Keys to Hearing God’s Voice  – Mark Virkler’s book completely changed my relationship with God. No longer do I throw prayers up to heaven in hopes that God hears me.  I don’t struggle to hear from God and my morning devotion and quiet time have grown into a two-way relationship with Jesus.  If you struggle to know that you’re hearing from God this book is a must.  Mark discusses how our brains works, helps us determine how God wired us to learn and address the issue of new age meditation/spirituality as opposed to true Christian relationship with the Holy Spirit.

Bait of Satan – Offense is one of those problems we live with and don’t even realize it’s there.  Like that constant lower back pain, we have we just go on about life with it and don’t realize a simple trip to the chiropractor can change our lives so it is with dealing with offense.  I realized I was holding offense against my earthly father, another family member, and some co-workers.  Once I realized these offenses I was holding on to I was able to forgive them, release them and find healing.  I was able to move on and stop harboring hatred and offense toward them.  John Bevere’s book and study guide are a good small group resource too.

Battlefield of the Mind – I have read through this book three times in the last 12 years.  Each time, as I’ve gained in maturity the Lord has revealed deeper things to me that I need to work on when it comes to the thoughts in my head.  There are three types of thoughts that your mind will encounter; yours, God’s and the enemy’s.  Understanding this truth alone was huge for me.  Like many others, I too thought that what came into my head I had to think.  I used this book in a bible study group a few years back too.  There is an accompanying study guide as well.

Power of a Praying Series – The first Power of a Praying book I got was from a dear friend who know I was struggling with my marriage.  My husband’s lack of spirituality, communication and more were getting the best of me.  She gave me Power of a Praying Wife and for four years I read and reread various chapters and prayed for my husband.  I recently bought Power of a Praying Parent as we work on being the parents God has called us to be and seek to raise a godly son.

What books have you found to be resources that have helped you in your walk with the Lord?
