Dear Working Mama: A Letter From the Heart

encouragement for the working mama

This is for the ones who get up early and stay up late. Who try their best to put good food on the table, spend quality time with their children and still go to work.  For those who are in a season of sacrifice so they can put any food on the table.  For those who don’t live lavishly but still can’t seem to close the door to employment and stay home.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

You’re not selfish, your not irresponsible and you are not living in sin because you work.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

When you get up at 4:30 to start sour dough bread and get a roast going before work while everyone sleeps you are not alone.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

When you stay up past 10 balancing the budget and doing dinner dishes it does not go unnoticed.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

When your bible is stained with tears from praying over your family in the wee hours of the morning.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

When you pray over your children every before you go to bed, when you can’t sleep because the “to do” list seems never ending you’re not alone.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

The two and half years I worked after Wyatt was born were hard, sometimes stressful years.  They were also years were I learned so much about what it means to be faithful and draw strength from the Lord.  I’ve been there. I got up at 4:30…sometimes 4 o’clock.  I cried weekly on the way to work almost begging God to give me a way out.  It wasn’t easy but I knew I wasn’t alone.  He was with me. I know it gets hard when you read about the blissful days of motherhood baking nutritious meals and homeschooling, especially if that is your desire.  And if it isn’t you may feel somewhat guilty that you don’t feel called to be at home full time.

Whether or not you have a desire to stay home don’t let anyone condemn you for working.

If you desire to be at home ask the Lord to provide a way for you.  Listen to His voice but don’t run ahead of Him.  You may have lessons to learn from working before He lets you leave. He may not miraculously deliver you from work, instead He may prepare a door through which you much walk.  I never dreamed that a house fire would start a chain of events that would lead up to me being a stay at home mom.

If you don’t want to or can’t quit working draw encouragement from other working moms.  Ask the Lord to show you how to balance it all and let you know when your life is getting out of balance.

You are a wonderful mother, God sees your heart.

Blessings from a former working mama to you, press on and trust in the Lord.

  1. Thank you! I cried. Supper in the crock pot 4/5 days, packed lunches and breakfasts for all, laundry running until 11 then again by 5, all the little things that matter, but no one notices. (Good thing I don’t have any clients until 11:30, because I’m headed to a deserted office to cry and pray for a while now.)

    • He notices Rebecca and your faithfulness will be rewarded. Bless you. And remember, Stacy Makes Cents is a SAHM and she “Crocks” all the time. 🙂
