How Do We Know God Really Loves Us

Where is the proof of God’s love?  Sometimes even the most devout of Christians wrestles with this amidst troubles times.

how do we know God really loves us

The most important act of love was that He gave his son, Jesus, so that we would have everlasting life. This was the ultimate sacrifice that has ever been made in the name of love. He did this to show his love toward us, even while we were sinners.

That should be enough. Yet how often do we struggle to know if God really does love us? When we’re in the pit, facing troubled times or at our wits’ end how do we know God still loves us even when we’re rather ugly?

New Life

When we accept Christ, we get a new life. This new life isn’t like a new paint job or a deluxe car wash. Quite the opposite is truth. Our new life starts where we cannot see. It is the spirit of the man that is first changed by God’s love and grace when we allow Him to take hold of us fully. Then, our outward appearance, actions and words will begin to change.

This new life is not just a sinner’s prayer recited out of obedience. New life is planted by the Holy Spirit, watered by the Word and grown into something marvelous though a relationship with Jesus Christ.

He Carries Our Troubles

God encourages us to cast all our cares on Him, because he cares for us. What a compassionate God we serve. He wants to carry our burdens. He wants us to trust Him enough to give our cares to Him. Just like our children come to us when something is wrong, that is how God wants us to come to him.

Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. ~ 1 Peter 5:6-7

He sees the tears, hears the cries and remembers everyone. I reminded of the song “Better Than a Hallelujah”.

Surely there is not a righteous man on earth who does good and never sins. ~ Ecl 7:20

God shows love as He forgives us every day and we need it, every day. His continual forgiveness of our sin, no matter how small we think they are, is our example for living a life of love and forgiveness to the world.  We measure sins one against the other, deciding that their sin is worse than our own yet to the Holy One lust is no worse than lying.

I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah ~ Psalm 32:5

Personal Relationship

There is nothing that we cannot share with God. He can be our most intimate friend with whom we can share anything. We go to Him with our problems, our hurts, pain, fears, and shortcomings. And if we go to Him in true repentance and a changed heart, nothing will separate us from His love.

Sometimes God blesses us just because He wants to. We have not done anything great or wonderful to deserve the goodness of God, but He sees us as wonderful through the blood of Jesus, and deserving of a blessing.

Although there may be suffering in life, Our Father doesn’t want to see us in pain and hurting. He heals our broken bodies and minds. He loves us so much that when we seek Him out, He can and will heal. Why don’t we always see healing on Earth? I believe it is our limited perspective that causes us to think first of healing here and now. If our entire existence was like a rope that could stretch around the globe(24,901 miles long), life on earth would be 10 feet of that journey. Healing is promised, where is happens is irrelevant.

But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. ~ Isaiah 53:5 NLT

God’s love overshadows any issues we may face in life. He loves us freely and unconditionally. He gave His most precious Son because of His love for us.  He does not love they way we see love displayed most often in the world. Rather His love doesn’t fold when the chips are stacked against us. He loves with an everlasting love.
