Why You Need to Think About 2015 Now

preplanning for 2015

At the risk of sounding like a retailer peddling Christmas merchandise in September, I’d like to talk to you about the new year.

Yes, the new year will be here before we know it and it’s time to start setting goals and thinking about 2015. In fact, there are less than 80 days until 2015 and in those 80 days we have holidays, parties, family gatherings, plus the normal day to day things to get done.  So starting early for the new year is important.

Why Start Now?

It’s important to start for planning your 2015 goals so you can take time and pray through things.  Trust me when I say, praying and seeking God before setting goals is so important.  You need time and since most of  us can’t walk away from life for a week to plan our new year giving ourselves time is the next best thing.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to talk about various goals you might have for 2014.  In the mean time, here’s a New Year Pre Planning Sheet to get you thinking about your goals for next year. This is your pre-planning stage. Simply write down the things that first come to mind or the things that have been on your heart for awhile but that you haven’t been able to accomplish. Only use the areas you need.

After you’ve written down your ideas begin to take each area to the Lord and ask what He would have you do?  Does it line up with what you were thinking or is He taking you in a different direction?  The key is being willing to submit your ideas to His authority.  Think, “Not my will Father, but Yours.”  Jesus was willing to follow God’s leading in the biggest decision of His life which led to his death.  Surely we can submit to his will for these areas of our lives.

Time Devoted

I wish you could spend a week or even a weekend away, praying and planning for your new year.  I think we would all be in a better position going into the new year if we could set aside such time, undistracted, to ask God where He wants us to focus.  If you ever have the opportunity to take a planning retreat, just you and God I highly recommend it.  Since this isn’t practical for most of us we still need to set aside devoted time to spend with God. I encourage you to spend time at least twice a week taking your thoughts to Him and asking Him for direction in the areas such as

  • Financial stewardship
  • Marriage
  • Homemaking
  • Health and wellness
  • Work/business
  • Spiritual growth
  • Children
  • Time management/organization
  • Friends/relationships

As we dig in over the next few weeks into some of these topics you’ll be inspired to work toward setting goals for your 2014.  In the meantime, use this New Year Pre Planning Sheet to start writing down your ideas for the new year.  Be sure to sign up below for updates on the latest New Year Planning posts and get additional printable sheets to help you plan.planning guide button

  1. I am with you, Danielle. I wrote a post awhile back called Goals, Dreams, and God’s Will. It is all about the balance between setting goals and having dreams while living within His will for our lives. Like you said, praying and seeking His wisdom before we set them is so important! Thanks for this reminder.
